I write advertising copy, business copy, web copy, social media copy, articles for trade publications and blogs, press releases and more.
Articles & Other Content
In 1999 I started freelance writing feature articles for the Norwich Bulletin, a daily newspaper covering Eastern Connecticut, and in 2005 for the Putnam Traveler, a quarterly tourism related newspaper based in Putnam, CT.
Today, I continue to write several articles for each Putnam Traveler issue. I also created the newspaper's website, which I update and maintain. You can read samples of my work in the Putnam Traveler's current issue or its archives. In Fall 2014, I started writing for The New London Day's special publication magazines. A new regional magazine, Connecticut East, which started in 2016, is my most recent writing venue.
I have also written website copy, advertising copy and marketing copy for small businesses and non-profit organizations in addition to articles for an industry association newsletter.
The Putnam Traveler is designed and published by Global Design Publishing, for which I write economic development copy for community magazines throughout Southern New England. I have researched and written text for cities as large as Waterbury, CT, and Springfield, MA, to small towns such as Westborough, MA, and Smithfield, RI. This entails working with city and town administrations, researching on-line, interviewing company officials, and developing content accordingly.
Here are samples of business & community guides for which I researched and wrote text (please note, some PDF files may take a minute or two to download):
Over the years, I have written scores of press releases for small businesses mostly in the tourism and retail industries, including exclusive country inns, bed & breakfasts of all sizes, art galleries, plus local merchants groups and regional tourism organizations.
Blogs and Facebook are a great value for small businesses seeking to reach an audience. Effective content and use of key words are crucial to successful use of these marketing tools.
In 2013, The Golden Lamb Buttery celebrated its 50th anniversary and published this lovely book in commemoration. I was proud to be editor for author Katie Bogert. To purchase a copy of The Golden Lamb Buttery: A 50th Anniversary Collection of Memories, History, Photos & Recipes or see what this fantastic restaurant in Brooklyn, CT, is all about, visit the Golden Lamb's website.
From 1998-2000 I worked for book developer Swordsmith Productions, in Pomfret, CT, doing production work, proofreading, copyediting, research and writing. I contributed to the following books:
The Adult Student's Guide, 1st & 2nd editions
History of Windham County, 1600-1760 & 1760-1880, Swordsmith Productions editions
